Alkanes are the major sources of fuel and and are widely used in domestic appliances, industry, aircrafts or, automobiles etc. some of the important uses are:
       
  • Methane can be used for fuel as a natural gas
  • Methane can be widely used to prepare carbon black which is widely used to manufacture printing ink and paints.
  • Higher alkanes are mainly used as gasoline, kerosene oil, diesel etc.
  • L.P. gas, primarily the mixture of the butane and isobutane, is used for domestic as well as industrial purpose.
